- What do you enjoy doing when you're not playing music? "I really enjoy cooking, especially baking. I actually took cake decorating classes when I was younger. I originally wanted to go to culinary school and open a bakery. Then my love for music took me on a different path, but I still love to cook and watch the food network." - What's the best concert that you've ever been to? "I got to go to a Coldplay concert in high school and it was so magical I thought I was going to lift off the ground and fly around the stadium. The crowd was so electric and just feeding off of Chris Martin's incredible energy." - So, Halloween is your birthday, what's it like being a "spooky" baby? "Haha, well when I was little, my mom told me that the whole reason that people were decorating and dressing up was just because it was my birthday. I believed this for many years." - If you could collaborate with an artist who would it be? "I would love to collaborate with Rascal Flatts. Gary, the lead singer is the man. His vocals are some of the best male vocals in country music. I would love to do a duet with him." - Do you have a pre show ritual? "Yes, as a band we make a point to have a huddle and dedicate the show to something. One time we dedicated the show to "our friendship" and someone thought we said we were dedicating to "our friend Chip" so now we often toast to "Our Friend Chip" before shows." - If you could blink your eyes and be in your favorite spot in the world where would you go? "There's a little basement cafe in a small town in Italy called Volterra. But in order for it to be the perfect spot, it has to be foggy and drizzling and you have to have hot chocolate and a guitar." - What new music are you listening to these days? "I'm listening to the new Mutemath album. It's slaying me right now." - Where do you gather songwriting inspiration? "I write down everything people say in passing or things I hear from eaves dropping that interest me. And of course most everything comes from personal experience or relationships. I never regret experiencing love and heartbreak or anger and bitterness. They're good emotions to pour into songs." - Name five things you can't live without. "Jelly belly's Coconut water My cell phone Music! (Is that cheesy?) My good luck turquoise turtle ring. It's very sentimental." - What's one piece of advice you have to your younger self? "Don't get set on any plans you've made! Life will come along and change them all so go with the flow." Photo by Katie Levine Photography |

- What do you like to do outside of music? "I have a mini-daschund named “Tank”, and pretty much anything that involves spending time with him is the best." - What type of gear have you been using lately? "Chase, the other guitarist in SCB, recently turned me on to The Heritage guitar brand. The Heritage is a group of workers from the original Gibson factory in Michigan, who started their own guitar company in the 80’s, and their electric guitars are fantastic. I recently acquired an ‘89 Heritage h-147 & i absolutely love it." - What is the most ridiculous thing that you have ever done on stage? "Haha,.. I used to play bass guitar for a pop/rock solo artist, and i thought it’d be a good idea to take a bass solo FRONT&CENTER Stage at a show, DURING/OVER one of his guitar solos… Needless to say, i got scolded after the gig." - Have you ever played a sport? If so, which one? "I actually grew up playing baseball. I didn’t even touch a guitar until i was 16.. All i wanted to do was be a Major League ball player,...until i got my first guitar… then everything changed" - Is there a particular song or musical passage that never fails to move you emotionally? “'Where the Streets Have no Name' by U2 is probably my favorite song of all time.. That opening guitar riff.. Bono’s soaring vocals… I’ve made huge life-decisions based on how that song spoke to me." Photo by Katie Levine Photography |

- What do you like to do outside of music? "I enjoy riding my motorcycle as much as possible. It gives me a chance to get outside and free myself from music and the real world. When I'm on my bike, it gives me time to just think and gather songwriting inspiration." - If you opened your own business, what type of company would it be and why? "I really enjoy carpentry and building things, so I think I would open a flight/road case company. That way I could make custom cases for musical gear for bands to tour with." - How Do You Handle Mistakes During a Performance? "I make mistakes on stage all the time. Not all are extremely prominent, but they do happen. I like to record each show on video and multitrack audio, which allows me to go back, much like watching football film after a game, and listen to what I could be doing better on stage musically and visually. I was taught at a young age to not get discouraged when I make mistakes, but to learn from them and grow to be a better person and musician." - Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process? "Either driving in my truck, on my motorcycle, or on my family’s boat. I love driving without listening to music, especially after a gig, and just thinking about ideas. It also comes from experience, which I take into account a lot, whether it was a great night out with friends, relaxing at a lakehouse, or the hard times we may have been through. With guitar being my principle instrument, I often start there, with a riff or feel, and work around that, because it is the most comfortable for me. I do like to challenge myself though and start writing with just lyrics, a drum groove, or even on a different instrument." - If you could open up for any artist on tour right now who would it be? "I’d have to say either Eric Church or Rascal Flatts. Those artists are both unbelievable performers and I think we’d have a lot of fun learning from them on and off the stage."
